Board of Director Code of Conduct
All Lodi Area Youth Baseball and Softball Club (LAYBS) Board Members must adhere to this Code of Conduct. As a volunteer Board Member of LAYBS, you have an important role in the delivery of a successful program to our community. The primary reason(s) for joining the LAYBS Board include making decisions that are for the benefit of the organization as a whole. Therefore, the following must be adhered to as a LAYBS Board member:
- I will enforce the rules and by-laws of LAYBS.
- I will put the safety of our players, spectators, coaches, and umpires first.
- As a representative of LAYBS, my conduct and behavior must always remain professional and civil.
- I understand that like the children on our teams, the Board of Directors must operate as a team to be successful. I will not act on my own (with exception to items listed in the bylaws for specific member positions) for any items affecting LAYBS.
- I will refrain from speaking negatively about Board members, coaches, parents, players, fans, or umpires on and off the league premises.
- If I am also a coach, I will not attempt to use my Board Member position to improperly influence team selections, or otherwise use my position to gain an unfair advantage for my child or for my team.
- It is understood that differences of opinions will always exist. When they occur, I will handle and resolve the differences in a civil manner that would be expected of an adult.
- I will respect the confidentiality of the “closed” portion of our board meetings and keep all items discussed within the confines of the board unless it has been discussed that the item be communicated to the appropriate audience
- As a member of this Board, I understand that I am open to criticism from the public and I will handle any criticism in an appropriate and civil manner that would be expected from an adult.
- It is understood that all volunteer Board Members have responsibilities outside of LAYBS. However, we must require a minimum commitment level from each Board Member. All Board members must complete the following minimum requirements or be subject to the removal of LAYBS Board of Directors by a majority vote. 1) Attend at least 75% of the Board meetings each year. 2) Stay current on assigned position responsibilities.
- I understand that not following the guidelines set in this code of conduct may lead to my removal from the LAYBS Board of directors by a majority vote of Board Members.
